Before the second game of the Patrick Division finals tonight, a
statistics sheet was handed out that included the following
information: The New York Rangers had not allowed a power-play goal
on home ice in 17 shorthanded situations in the playoffs. This piece
of paper also reported that the Rangers had killed off 11 consecutive
power plays, home and away. And it showed that the Rangers led all
playoff teams in scoring on power-play opportunities.
In the fine print, you could find information about the
Washington Capitals: only four power-play goals in 32 chances, which
ranked them 12th out of 16 playoff teams.
Three hours later, another sheet of paper was circulating at
Madison Square ...
