In the '80s, the big news in news was the arrival and growth of
CNN, the grievous budget cutbacks at the three major networks, and
"Nightline," a persistently responsive and resilient broadcast that
has become a valuable American habit.
That "Nightline" thrives and prospers is particularly remarkable
in an era when the impact and viewership of the networks' evening
newscasts is on the decline.
Tonight, in prime time-at 10 on Channel 7-ABC News celebrates
"Nightline's" 10th anniversary with the redundantly titled "The Best
of Nightline With Ted Koppel: The Nightline Decade," a one-hour
