TOKYO MARATHON
Jessica Ruthe, of Tauranga, finished ninth in the Tokyo women's
marathon on Saturday, clocking 2hr 39min 12sec. Ruthe was aiming for
the Beijing Olympic Games selection time of 2hr 33min, and was on
target passing the half way mark in 1hr 16min 39sec but slowed as
the temperatures contnued to rise to 20deg.
Results: Mizuki Noguchi (Japan) 2hr 21min 37sec (course record)
1, Salina Kosgei (Kenya) 2hr 23min 31sec 2, Bruna Genovese (Italy)
2hr 27min 35sec 3. Also: JESSICA RUTHE (NZ) 2hr 39min 12sec 9.
Meanwhile, Michael Aish finished second in last week's Big Sur
half marathon in 1hr 4min 8sec at Monterey Bay, California.
