The value of construction permits issued in the city of Pittsburgh
appear on the way to breaking last year's total of $389 million, with
$361.2 million already on the books for the first half of 2006. The
city's Bureau of Building Inspection, which issues construction
permits, said the value of new permits issued in June alone reached
$174.1 million. Major projects included Walnut Capital Properties' 42-
unit Metropolitan condominium at 537 N. Neville St., Shadyside; three
permits in the Eastside complex in East Liberty by Mosites Co.,
valued at more than $13.5 million; and a new four-story building by
the University of Pittsburgh at 3412 Forbes Ave., valued at $5.4
million.
