UNIVERSITY PARK - Joe Paterno and Anthony Morelli were proved
right by Michigan Saturday night, not that either could take great
joy in it.
Paterno had said during the week that the Beaver Stadium crowd,
which turned out 110,007 strong, the second-highest number ever
assembled there, couldn't win the game for Penn State.
The white-out crowd did contribute to a couple of early offensive
penalties for Michigan (7-0, 4-0) and a wasted timeout, but it
couldn't stop the Wolverines' pass rush, or its powerful offense in
what ended up as a 17-10 Michigan win, its eighth consecutive triumph
over Penn State. Penn State (4-3, 2-2) hasn't beaten Michigan since
1996.
