SARASOTA, Fla. - Pirates leadoff hitter Chris Duffy isn't troubled
by his 3-for-17 start to spring training.
"For most people, it's easy to get caught up in the numbers," he
said. "I'm going up every time trying to get a hit. But I'm more
pleased with myself just putting the ball in play and getting my
timing down. That's starting to come."
Duffy might have proved as much Saturday, when he flied out to
left field, had a sacrifice bunt and lined a single to left during
the Pirates' 5-3 loss to the New York Yankees at McKechnie Field.
His base hit, which raised his spring batting average to .176,
came in the fifth inning against Yankees reliever Steven Jackson.
