Article: Most Pirates ready for spring training to end

SARASOTA, Fla. - This is the longest week of spring training, or at least it feels that way.

It's when teams pare their rosters to 25 players. Players on the bubble dress quickly and quietly at their lockers, hoping the reaper will pass them by.

It's when the daily grind of pre-dawn wake-up calls, infield practice, bunting drills and bullpen sessions -- all before a three- hour game -- gets especially tedious. It's when nobody wants to risk an injury that would keep them out of action until June.

It's when the season opener in Houston is so close, the Pirates can practically smell it.
