United Mine Workers union members could be on strike by Wednesday, as union contracts at three mines operated by Foundation Coal, including two in Pennsylvania, expired over the weekend. A work stoppage would set the stage for the first major strike in U.S. coalfields in 13 years. The miners' union plans to hold a solidarity rally at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Greene County Fairgrounds outside Waynesburg.
