ST. LOUIS - Pirates closer Salomon Torres climbed back on the
tightrope Monday night and wavered, but he did not fall.
Torres nailed down a 3-2 victory against the St. Louis Cardinals
by surviving a heart-pounding ninth inning.
"He got a little bit of everything within the framework of three
outs," Pirates manager Jim Tracy said.
It started when first baseman Adam LaRoche booted Adam Kennedy's
grounder. Kennedy went to second on a sacrifice bunt.
Aaron Miles pounded a hard grounder down the third base line. The
ball skipped off the bag and over the head of third baseman Jose
Bautista. If shortstop Jack Wilson had not backed up the play,
