Honolulu jewelry designer Leocadia Eyre, recently visiting her
native Pittsburgh, fingered a white $78 pillow shimmering with
abutting rows of white seashells in Hot Haute Hot Inc. in the Strip
District.
"They're gorgeous," says the designer, who works with shells in
her own business. "That's mother of pearl." She says the makers had
dyed other shells lime-green for a lime pillow, a smaller size at
$48.
The shell pillows that speak of summer have been selling well,
says Emily Boul, manager of the eclectic home-decor store. When
tossed on a sofa or chair, they conjure visions of alluring beach
destinations, which is the point of buying them now. Call it seasonal
