As a boy growing up in India, Jacob Kallivayalil attended a
Catholic church that used the Latin Mass.
"I'm comfortable with Latin," said Kallivayalil, 40, who attends
services at St. Maurice Church in Forest Hills. But he doesn't want
to "take a step backward" by returning to the Latin Mass.
In an effort to bring some wayward Catholics back to the church,
Pope Benedict XVI is expected to announce today that he is easing
restrictions on the use of the Latin Mass that were imposed as part
of the Second Vatican Council in 1965.
Latin Masses have only been allowed in Catholic churches with
special permission from a bishop.
