Prince George County and the Crater Planning District Commission
have received $1.75 million in grant funding from the state to
mitigate the impact of the expansion at Fort Lee.
The General Assembly appropriated funding for the grants in 2006,
which was administrated by the Virginia National Defense Industrial
Authority. Both agencies went through the competitive application
process, submitting proposals for their projects.
The Crater District Planning Commission received $750,000 for
improvements to the Mahone Gate at Fort Lee, which exits to U.S.
Route 460, and Prince George County was awarded $1 million toward
replacing North Elementary School, located on Old Stage Road, with a
