Article: Petersburg says 'FORE!' (million) for golf course

PETERSBURG -- There wasn't an empty seat in Union Train Station Tuesday night as more than 200 people came out to the regular City Council meeting for a public hearing on a plan to use $4 million in government loans to finance the reconstruction of Lee Park Golf Course.

Two dozen residents spoke during the hearing, with only four speaking in favor of the financing.

In the end, though, council voted 6-1 in favor of using $4 million in three-year bond anticipation notes to pay for the course. Councilwoman Joan Carter was the dissenting vote.
