Orioles 6, Devil Rays 3
-- It had seemed a certain stroke of luck that the Baltimore
Orioles and the Tampa Bay Devil Rays each had the perfect foil for
Opening Day. Both teams have struggled since 1998, a combined 1,493
losses heading into Monday's home opener for Tampa Bay, and it had
seemed the schedule makers had a fine sense of humor, or perhaps the
foresight to put a winnable game on tap on a day of pomp and
circumstance. This was a football coach scheduling a patsy for
homecoming.
A week ago, the Orioles buried the Devil Rays in Baltimore, which
had thrilled the orange-clad home crowd, and it was Tampa Bay's turn
on Monday to repay the favor for all those youngsters in green and
blue ...
