Article: Obama's ex-foe leads Iowa charge; Comptroller Hynes will knock on some doors for pol who beat him

I received a personal invitation Monday from Illinois Comptroller Dan Hynes asking me to accompany him to Iowa to help campaign for Barack Obama for president.

Flattered as I was by the "Dear Friends" letter that arrived via mass e-mail, I'm afraid I'll have to decline.

Being a columnist gives me more leeway than the average reporter in terms of voicing my opinions and getting involved, but I don't think it extends quite that far.

Still, I was intrigued by Hynes' invite to join him for his Dec. 8 outing, during which he says he will be leading a crew of volunteers campaigning for Obama in eastern Iowa.
