Article: $6.1 million plan to improve downtown gets state funding

It took 10 years, dozens of meetings, and a healthy dose of patience, but Reading residents soon will see construction begin on a project designed to enhance their downtown streetscape.

State officials have agreed to fund the downtown improvement project, a $6.1 million effort to restore portions of Reading's heavily traveled Main Street. Town Manager Peter Hechenbleikner said the state has selected J. Marchese & Sons Inc. of Everett for the job .
