Having been on the Government Badger TB Panel, I was saddened to
read several well-meaning but ill-informed letters on the risk of
bovine TB.
Most countries starting a cattle TB scheme do ban unpasteurised
milk, including Scotland and Ireland. Radio 4 last week ran a piece
on Farming Today about unpasteurised being the new health thing in
New York and LA, which is very foolish.
As Professor Pennington pointed out, there were bad outbreaks of
salmonella in Glasgow before the ban, and due to faulty
pasteurisation, of campylobacter in Aberdeen... and there is now
untreatable e.coli 0157. And the description of the "atypical"
mycobacteria, with cutting out neck lesions and multi-drug therapy,
