You wear a diamond Rolex around me at your peril. You wear a $30
sports Casio and I'm intrigued. You may be defining yourself as an
athlete or simply saying I don't give a damn about watches. The
people I know in this second category could fill Fenway Park. Either
way, your watch makes a statement.
Forget a Rolls, a watch is now billed as the ultimate status
symbol. Judging from the full-page fancy watch ads that populate
glossy magazines, this appears to be the case, at least for people
who care about status symbols in the first place. For a man who
