COLUMBUS -- A group who supports teaching Ohio's schoolchildren
that refraining from sexual activity until after marriage is the
safest course called on Gov. Ted Strickland to accept federal
funding and support abstinence education in the state.
"Despite the positive effect of abstinence education, Gov.
Strickland has said 'No thanks' to free federal dollars for
abstinence education," Valerie Huber, executive director of the
National Abstinence Education Association, said during a rally at
the Statehouse Thursday morning. "... It just doesn't make sense.
This decision is misguided and one that we are asking the governor
to rethink."
