Article: Light therapy can alleviate 'SAD'-ness

MILLERSBURG -- Take 30 minutes of sunlight a day and call the doctor in the morning.

It's not the usual prescription, but for the 14 percent of Americans who experience the winter weather depression clinically known as Seasonal Affective Disorder, it may be one of the best treatments for a mood disorder that can mimmic the symptoms of clinical depression.

"The more we are indoors, the more likely we are not getting what we need from outdoors," said Joe E. Heimlich, an Ohio State University associate professor of Environmental Science and Community Development.

That includes sunlight.
