John Elliott couldn't pinpoint one specific reason that led to his resignation after three years as Tell City High School's football coach.

"It wasn't a clear-cut decision," he said. "I've done it for three years and continued to live and teach over here (in Evansville). That was a bit of a problem, driving an hour every day to practice. I put a pretty competitive team on the field. I felt I turned the program around and I felt it was time for me to move on."

Elliott, who was 13-18 overall, posted a 6-4 mark in 2006, the Marksmen's lone winning record in the past six seasons. This year, they won a sectional game for the first time in seven seasons before ending 5-6.
