Firefighters in the Highlands were celebrating last night after
it was announced that the threat hanging over a key part of the
service had been lifted.
The Scottish Government said there would be no reduction in the
number of fire control rooms across the country.
The news follows years of speculation and a report prepared for
the previous government which recommended cutting the number of
control rooms from eight to either one, two or three.
However, ministers have decided they will not take any "central
action" to pare down resources, a move that will appease fears over
job losses.
