As the dust settles on the Government announcement that Exeter
City Council's unitary bid has been thrown out, for now, the leaders
of the city council and Devon County Council give their views on
what's next for Exeter and Devon
Iwas gobsmacked and devastated by the announcement, as the week
before we were talking about orders going to parliament and
everything seemed to be go.
It is sad that Exeter didn't get unitary but we can take comfort
in that Local Government Minister John Healey has referred the case
to the Boundary Committee and he has said to me that if the rest of
Devon can be sorted it might happen then.
