When trying to piece together the puzzle of nutrition causes or
prevention of cancer, we need to discern good evidence from not-so-
good evidence.
Questions to ask of research studies include: how many people
were in the study (the minimum number should be 100); how long was
something studied; and is the study reproducible? Other questions
include: What does the one-sentence conclusion really mean and what
do we do with it?
The effect of nutrition on breast cancer survival has been one
area where the puzzle keeps growing. The Women's Intervention
Nutrition Study (WINS) presented at the American College of Clinical
Oncologists in 2005 is one study that added another piece to the
