Los Angeles considers ban on new fast-food restaurants

LOS ANGELES, Dec. 11 (Xinhua) -- The Los Angeles City Council is considering a plan to prevent new fast-food restaurants from opening in parts of the city, officials said Tuesday.

The proposed ordinance would prevent fast food chains from opening new restaurants in areas including South Los Angeles, WestAdams, Baldwin Hills and Leimert Park for the next year. City planners want to take that time to study the social, economic and environmental effects of fast food restaurants in low-income neighborhoods.
