* Avid art collector researches, sponsors book on life, work of Frank Paul Sauerwein

Taos painter Frank Paul Sauerwein was at the height of his artistic powers when he died of tuberculosis in 1910 at the age of 39. For more than 90 years his art was the province of a handful of collectors, historians and a few galleries and museums.

Though Sauerwein was mentioned in 35 books on the art of the Southwest, his life largely remained a mystery until avid collector Steve Holmes decided to part the veils of history with his sponsorship and research for a new book, "Frank Paul Sauerwein."
