Student Musicians Get Chance To Play With Pros Serenata of Santa Fe concert blurs lines between amateur and professional presentations

Classical concerts are usually categorized as being either amateur or professional presentations, but Serenata of Santa Fe's "Blurring the Lines" chamber ensemble performance on Sunday afternoon pairs student players with professional counterparts. It's a chance, said Santa Fe Waldorf High School senior and violist Hari Rai Khalsa, to be challenged in interesting and unusual ways.

"When you play with amateur groups like the Santa Fe Youth Symphony, you get months of practice and rehearsals," she explained. "With this Serenata performance, we have to know our parts very well at home before we get together to rehearse. The pros are used to this. Amateurs are not."
