UNM Areas May Ban Smoking

The days of medical staff and students grabbing a quick smoke at
the University of New Mexico could end in April if officials follow
through with plans to ban smoking on the health sciences campus.
Though the decision is not final, a smoking ban likely would
coincide with the opening of the Barbara and Bill Richardson
Pavilion, a health sciences employee said at a public forum
Wednesday.
"All of the north campus is probably going to be smokefree when we
open the new hospital in April," said Jane Bowes, who directs a
smoking cessation program at UNM's Health Sciences Center.
Health Sciences spokesman Billy Sparks said the move to ban
