Whether the shortage of foster parents in McLean County is more
severe than other parts of the state is unclear.
However, even if the McLean County situation is only a small part
of a statewide problem, adding to the turmoil of children's lives by
shipping them out of the county should be avoided - whether it is one
child or a hundred children.
Fortunately, McLean County officials are not simply shrugging off
the problem.
A committee, headed by Circuit Judge Ronald Dozier, is looking
into the problem and how to solve it. Dozier presides over abuse and
neglect cases in McLean County. The committee includes state and
local child-welfare officials.
