Pro bono casework overwhelms lawyers

BLOOMINGTON - Prairie State Legal Services managing attorney George Boyle needs good lawyers who'll work for free - a lot of them.

His staff of three paid attorneys represents people who can't afford legal services in noncriminal matters, but his office is overwhelmed.

"The hardest part is we have to turn down a lot of people who have real needs and good cases," Boyle said.

The McLean County Bar Association's current roster of lawyers for pro bono work lacks size and a diversity of expertise.

"We need to revamp the list and get more people involved," Boyle said.
