Good luck to Treasury Secretary Paul O'Neill as he continues his
quest to have Congress simplify the federal tax code.
This is a good time for O'Neill to talk about the tax code. As the
April 15 filing deadline draws closer, more and more people have the
tax code on their minds. Like a leaky roof in the rain, the
complexities of the tax code draw more attention when people are
filling out tax return forms.
Of course, the thrust of O'Neill's recent remarks to the Economic
Club of Chicago was the impact of the tax code's "indecipherable
rules" on business and the resulting "drag on our ability to create
jobs."
But simplification should help individuals as well as businesses - ...
