Article: Master carpenter believes in simplicity

BLOOMINGTON - "Measure twice, cut once."

It's the cardinal rule of every Saturday carpenter. Now hear it from a professional:

"I measure as many times as it takes," says aptly named trim carpenter Kent Carpenter. "You can always cut again but I've yet to figure out how to make this stuff grow again."

He should know. For more than 20 years, Carpenter has been cutting, sanding, building and installing "anything that has to do with wood" inside some of Bloomington-Normal's finest homes.

Carpenter, who owns his own business, is one of many sub- contractors who contribute to new construction.

"I'm not a complicated person," Carpenter says. "I like to keep things simple."
