Article: Brownlee gets in the swing for ISU baseball

When Illinois State athletics director Perk Weisenburger introduced Jim Brownlee as the eighth head baseball coach in school history three months ago, he said he wanted a leader and a competitor.

Weisenburger also wanted someone who had a vision; an accomplished fund-raiser; and someone with energy and passion.

During his first 90 days on the job, the 57-year-old Brownlee appears to have the energy level of a 17-year-old.

The guy is everywhere, promoting not only ISU baseball, but baseball at any level. He'll stop and talk baseball on the street corner, at Schooners pub, or at the youth travel team tryouts for the Bloomington-Normal American Legion program.
