NORMAL - While some officials are concerned about an increase in
student fund-raising activities, they also recognize the practice
isn't going away in a time of tight school budgets.
"I would say fund raising is definitely increasing," said Trish
Reimer, who works for Great American Opportunities, Inc., which
assists schools and other nonprofit groups throughout the country
with fund-raising projects.
Reimer, a Normal native, covers an area that stretches from McLean
County to the Indiana border and from Watseka to Effingham. She said
the list of activities available to students is growing, but often
"there's not enough money" to pay for such things as uniforms, trips
and playground ...
