Article: ISU police given defibrillator

NORMAL - When Sally Pyne of Normal was shocked back to life by a firefighter using an automated external defibrillator, there were two of the devices for public use in McLean County.

Now, 100 of the lifesaving devices are available to the general public and another 100 are privately owned.

On Thursday, McLean County's 100th public access defibrillator was presented to the Illinois State University Police Department during a press conference at The Workout Co. in Normal.

Pyne, whose heart attack occurred in August 2001, marveled at the progress but said efforts of American Heart Association volunteers will continue until everyone in McLean County is within three minutes of a defibrillator.
