Article: Claritin's switch brings little fanfare

BLOOMINGTON - Claritin users no longer need a prescription to get their favorite nonsedating allergy medicine.

Whether those allergy patients will continue with Claritin as it moves from prescription only to over-the-counter, or whether they will switch to a prescription-only antihistamine, depends on whether their insurance company provides prescription drug benefits, Twin City pharmacists said Friday.

The same is true for patients trying allergy medicine for the first time.

Pharmacists such as John Brandau, manager at Schnucks Pharmacy in Bloomington, were fielding calls and questions from people about the Claritin move Friday, but they weren't exceptionally busy.
