Truth about Notre Dame football seen in records

I am writing in response to Dr. (Jeffrey) Huettemann's outburst in Tuesday's paper ("Truth about Notre Dame football seen in bowl loss," YourViews, Jan. 7).

Before the season began, Notre Dame still had its history, yet the Irish were ranked behind Boise State. Going into the bowl game, Notre Dame was ranked 11th because they only lost two games all season.

When they were nine games into the season and still undefeated, neither the coaches nor sportswriters had Notre Dame picked No. 1. However, the majority of computers did.
