Article: Graduation rate formula questioned

BLOOMINGTON - Local school districts showed some fluctuation in their 2002 graduation rates while the state figure was the best on record.

However, some administrators are questioning aspects of the rate and how it is calculated.

Overall, Olympia's graduation rate dropped and Unit 5's increased slightly, though both were below the state average. District 87's rate for the 2002 Bloomington High School class was 88.6 percent, up slightly from 88.5 percent in 2001, and above the state average of 85.2 percent.

In 2001, the state rate was 83.2 percent.
