NORMAL - Illinois State University hopes to recruit and retain
more minority faculty by asking other employers what works for them,
but the message they got from law enforcement Tuesday was more along
the lines of "you're not alone."
"We need more minorities on the force," said Bloomington Assistant
Police Chief Kevin Livingston, one of six officers disciplined last
week for potentially offensive e-mails with sexual and racial
content. "We're making an effort to improve that, but it's hard."
Livingston was joined by Bloomington community affairs specialist
Barb Adkins, Normal Police Chief Walt Clark, ISU Police Capt. Keith
Gehrand and McLean County Sheriff Dave Owens.
