Where'd I spend my summer vacation?
In Oshkosh, b'gosh.
My mom's family hails from the shores of Lake Winnebago.
That may explain my status as a proud Packer fan and avid pursuer
of walleyes.
Both are in my blood, and the Lake Winnebago system is a great
place to be either.
My trip there for two days with fishing partner Deb Fahn of
Pontiac last weekend proved Lake Winnebago offers many ways to fish
for walleye fans.
The first day was slow. A cold front moved through the day
earlier. We faced blue-bird skies and walleyes had moved away from
the shallow water on rock reefs where bait-shop scuttlebutt said we
should we start.
We drifted jigs and leeches on reefs near Garlic Island ...
