Remember, pointed side up. Water them in. Fertilize around
Halloween. Leave them alone and come back in late March.
That's all there is to planting spring-flowering bulbs. And
although gardeners love to debate dates, tulips, daffodils and other
bulbs can be dropped in the ground anytime now.
Sherri Kalmer has kept handfuls of tulip bulbs in her garage as
late as February before chiseling them into frozen ground, but she
doesn't recommend it. The earlier they're planted, the deeper the
roots and bigger the blooms, the Green View Nursery manager said.
Most bulbs put on a good show the first year regardless of where
they're planted. It's the second year that reflects on the gardener.
