Article: Livingston board OKs jail technology 'Video visitation' costs $139,000

PONTIAC -- Visitors at the new Livingston County jail will talk to inmates via telephone and video hookup, the county board decided Thursday night.

In other business, the board also decided bar owners in Livingston County will pay $50 more for their liquor licenses in 2004.

The board approved spending $139,000 to install a video visitation system for the new county jail.

Livingston County Sheriff Bob McCarty said the new system will cut down on the use of correctional officers who must escort inmates to the visitation room and then monitor the inmate and family during the visit.
