Labor Day has been around for more than a century in the United
States. Although it was initially championed by the organized labor
movement, it has moved beyond that.
For some, it marks the end of summer and the beginning of the
school year.
Yet, summer -- as defined by 90-degree days -- seemed to end
before it started this year. And it has been a long time since
classes waited until September to resume.
Labor Day also has long been considered the "official" start of
the political campaign season.
Certainly, today's Labor Day celebrations will be well-populated
