COLFAX -- A strong wind played havoc with both teams' playbooks in
a Class 1A first-round high school football playoff game between
Cerro Gordo and Ridgeview on Saturday. But ultimately it was the
physical size and pound-it-out running game of the Broncos that wore
down the home Mustangs as Cerro Gordo rallied in the fourth quarter
to pull away for a 30-16 victory.
Cerro Gordo, ranked No. 10 in Class 1A and the fifth seed,
improved to 8-2 and advances to play Arthur-Lovington in the second
round.
Ridgeview, ranked ninth in 1A and the fourth seed, saw a
successful season end at 7-3.
"It's just tough," an emotional Ridgeview coach Mike Benton said.
"These kids worked so hard."
