If you're the type who likes regalia, and all the medals and
insignia that go with it, then the Institute of Heraldry will knock
your socks off, or at least rattle your epaulets.
The institute is one of many operations at the U.S. Army's
Cameron Station in Alexandria. Although a Pentagon commission
recommended last week that Alexandria's Cameron Station, along with
90 other military bases, be closed or severely cut back, the 38
civilian employees of the Institute of Heraldry and nearly all the
330 Army personnel and 4,000 civilians who work at Cameron Station
would be transferred, probably to Fort Belvoir in Fairfax County, if
the base were closed.
