Article: September house sales better than a year ago

BLOOMINGTON -- September house sales in the Twin Cities rose substantially from a year ago despite the rising cost of newly constructed homes.

Sales last month totaled 263 homes, 48 more than the same time a year ago. Based on those figures, September sales rose about 22 percent from 2004 to 2005.

But sales were down 16 percent from August, when 312 homes were sold, according to a monthly report released by the Bloomington- Normal Association of Realtors.

"You can't compare August to September. You have to compare year to year because sales are very seasonal," said association president Pat Kaisner.
