NORMAL -- Human rights have fallen victim to the war on terrorism
in some areas of the world, including the United States, an Amnesty
International official said.
"So many countries justify repressive measures in the name of
fighting terrorism," said Curt Goering, senior deputy executive
director of Amnesty International. He will speak in the Twin Cities
this weekend.
"To some extent, there are terrorist attacks a government is
responding to ... but so often governments go too far beyond what is
necessary," he said.
Goering, 53, who spent time in Iraq after the first Gulf War in
1991 and after the second invasion in 2003, is being hosted by the
