Like a bad penny, Fred Malek keeps turning up. The former White
House aide to Richard Nixon is being mentioned for a job in the Bush
administration, and the usual leaks have been made to the usual
newspapers to see what the reaction will be. The leakers tell us
that Malek is beloved by George Bush and that a job will undoubtedly
be his. The only thing standing in Malek's way is some pesky Jews.
You know how they can be.
Malek's problem is basically one of timing. Having not heard
from Nancy Reagan that you can simply say no, he did what Richard
Nixon asked of him: counted Jews in the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Nixon was convinced a cabal of Jews was out to do him in by
manipulating ...
