Former Pantagraph intern Todd Heisler has won the Pulitzer Prize
for feature photography, the Pulitzer board announced Monday.
Heisler, a photographer at the Rocky Mountain News in Denver, was
recognized for a series of photographs that examined behind the
scenes moments of a U.S. Marine Corps casualty assistance calls
officer who was responsible for making funeral arrangement for
Colorado Marines who returned from Iraq in caskets.
The series was part of a year-long project by Heisler and News
reporter Jim Scheeler, who also won the Pulitzer award for feature
writing, detailing the work of Maj. Steve Beck and other members of a
unit at Auroras Buckley Air Force Base.
