Article: Bush Meets With Teamsters Who Face Trial Next Month; Union's Support in Campaign Recognized

In what aides described as a political thank-you for an endorsement, President-elect George Bush and his incoming White House chief of staff met privately yesterday with top officials of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, including six scheduled to go on trial next month in a Justice Department civil suit charging them with racketeering.

A senior aide to Bush said the president-elect "just stuck his head in the door" during the 15- to 20-minute session that incoming chief of staff John H. Sununu held with Teamsters President William J. McCarthy and five or six other members of the Teamster governing board.
